Kulanu

Kulanu is more than a “religious school.” It is a learning community where children dive deeply into Jewish life, moving from curiosity to lasting understanding through projects that unfold over time. When learners explore one idea from many angles—returning to it in new settings and creating something tangible—they make it their own. That rhythm defines Kulanu.

Content still is the heart: Jewish holidays, Torah stories, Hebrew, mitzvot, practices, and the values of kindness, justice, community, and Jewish pride. What changes is how each child encounters that content—through participatory, hands-on experiences that place students at the center.

Parents sometimes ask whether their children will “cover what they’re supposed to.” Yes—and more. Each session has clear goals tied to the Jewish year, guided by educators who weave inquiry with reflection. Your child may come home paint-splattered or eager to finish a model, but beneath the creativity lies a carefully planned path to mastery and a love for Jewish life.

Kulanu means “all of us.” It reflects both the breadth of Jewish wisdom we explore and the inclusive, joyful way we explore it—together.

Enduring Understandings

We strive to create an environment where youth:

  • Feel Connected and Belong
    • Learners form meaningful relationships within Kulanu and the larger Temple B’nai Sholom community, learning to appreciate the diversity of Jewish customs and traditions.
  • Explore and Strengthen Jewish Identity
    • Learners explore what it means to be Jewish, deepening their connection to Jewish values, ethics, and practices.
  • Make Informed Jewish Choices
    • We empower learners to engage with Jewish ritual and practice, equipping them to make choices that reflect their personal Jewish identity.
  • Embrace Lifelong Learning
    • Jewish education is a lifelong journey. We aim to nurture curiosity, creating a welcoming space for all learners to grow, question, and connect with Jewish history and the world around them.
  • Engage in Social Justice
    • Guided by tikkun olam (repairing the world), we inspire students to take action for justice, compassion, and peace in their communities and beyond.
  • Learn Hebrew
    • Hebrew is the language of our prayers, rituals, and sacred texts. By incorporating Hebrew into our learning, we strengthen our connection to Jewish history and the global Jewish community.
